Our server was fantastic--- top notch! I think her name was Brianna. She was friendly and genuine and happy and should run the place :) I asked for a Bloody Mary and she explained how she likes and makes them: half clamato, half Bloody Mary mix, salt/pepper, squeeze of some lemon, tapatillo, salt on rim, slice of lime to top it off. If was the most refreshing Bloody Mary I've ever had. She recommended the breakfast flat enchiladas (can't remember full name) and is was seriously sooooooo so so so so so good. I didn't take a picture because I was busy devouring it. The only thing I didn't like was the potatoes (tasted greasy), their chips (not my preference) and their corn tortillas (store bought). The salsa was great and spicy though.

Had the tacos alhambre, quite good. Everything fresh and flavorful and seems homemade, including the tasty flour tortillas, chips & salsa, and rice & beans.

Very friendly service. Sat at bar. Bartender happily made me a margarita with fresh lime juice. I had the veggie enchiladas which were very good. My husband had the Alambre (spelling?) Tacos. Soft tacos with grilled steak, bacon, onions and peppers. They were awesome! The salsa is delicious and the chips were crispy and warm. We appreciated the side choice of chilaquiles as well.

We hadn't been here in a long time, too long! The salsa they service has nice flavor without being too hot or tomato juicy. Just good old Mexican food. It was lunch and the servings were just right, we cleaned our plates and weren't stuffed. Great, friendly service!

What happened to this place??? My husband and I ate here often but the trips here became fewer due to gradual decline in quality. Our last visit we finally said no more. The salsa was really hot, so I asked for a little mild so I could mix it. I got a side of tomato sauce ( no lie). When our food arrived, he warned us the plates were hot he just neglected to mention the food was cold. Refried beans were so salty I just couldn't eat. It may benefit the owner to read some of these reviews. Unfortunately we won't be returning.

I had the chicken taco salad. This was served in a taco shell bowl that had a greasy after taste. Perhaps 2 bites of dry shredded chicken, iceberg lettuce, cucumber, sour cream and avacodo were included. Proportions were on the small side. Meal was overpriced. The service was average and restaurant clean. Since there are a number of mexican restaurants in Tucson, I will not return to this one.

Camarones Rellenos did not have cheese filling as advertised and I was charged more than price on menu. Margaritas had no hint of tequila in them as well. Glad we had a Groupon

Excellent. Haven't been here in awhile, but will definitely be back. Much improved as noted in other reviews.

Worth the visit. After the underwhelming reviews of late we gave it a shot and it seems that the place is getting some attention from the owner(s)/staff. The fish and shrimp tacos were fresh and tasted good along with the charro beans and cilantro rice on the side. The service was attentive and the young man who was our server was great! Give this place another shot folks.

Service: Leaves the customer wanting. Too many times ours drinks were empty for too long Food: Over the last 3 years this place has changed management and with doing do the food has degraded. In 2011 this was my favorite Mexican restaurant within 15 miles. Now, as of last week, I'll not visit it again. The chips were unappetizing, the meal (chili carne) was just mundane. Drinks: If in need of a pre or post movie drink this might be your place. They offer good margaritas, wines, and beer

I wanted to like this place, but I just can't say anything positive about my experience there. We came with 6 people total, and it seemed like our party was too large for their server to handle. It took ten minutes to get a drink order In, and another ten minutes to get our food ordered. After our food came out, I almost immediately wanted to leave. The food looked awful. I had an enchilada with double rice, and you could see that they had put beans on the plate and scraped them off. I didn't mention it to the server, as he was already having a hard time with remembering who got what. I slowly examined my chicken enchilada after the first two bites and noticed that there was hardly any flavor beyond the red sauce that was slathered all over. I couldn't see any spices or any type of seasoning added at all. I was disappointed when my friend looked over and mentioned it looked like the sauce came from a can. I was done after that and went home hungry to say the least.

Very average Mexican and the tamales had virtually nothing inside them. When we asked the manager to take it off the tab and just charge us for the beans and rice sides, he told us he would only comp if the food was untouched. Who would even know if they didn't touch it??? We were having other meals and top shelf margaritas. We were not out to take advantage. Will never give another dime to this establishment. Very bad customer service.

Had lunch here and the salsa was a pleasant surprise. Very good; different. I ordered enchiladas verdes and it was delicious. Highly recommend for lunch.

This place is OK. I've been there a few times while visiting Tucson, only because it's really close to the place we stay, but I would REALLY like to find something new. The atmosphere and service were nothing special, though not particularly bad either. I did enjoy the chips and salsa (though I'm not that picky with salsa, unless it tastes like ketchup)...but the food was just mmeh :/ Again, nothing special...it was very comparable to the (not-so-authentic) Mexican food we have in California...except for a few items, like the Sonoran Dog.

We love this place. Good for lunch breaks and family dinner. Great food and customer service. Decent prices too.

Went here with my brother and his kids when in Tucson in December. It was ok - good for kids and a decent sized menu. Good chips and salsa, the margarita I had was good as well. For a little deeper experience foodwise, I prefer El Charro up the road, but for your basic Mexican 101 food that kids will like, San Carlos is a good answer. Service was very attentive as well.

This was our first trip to the San Carlos Grill. We have been meaning to give it a try for a while now. It's located in the Oro Valley Marketplace near the theater, making it the perfect place to stop into for a bite to eat or a drink before or after a movie. We went for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. When we walked in we were seated immediately as only a few tables were filled. We were brought chips and salsa to munch on while we perused the menus. Both the chips and the salsa were very good. The chips were very fresh. We were happy to see that breakfast is also offered at this establishment as there are few breakfast places close to us. The menu was varied with lots to choose from, and the prices seemed very reasonable. I ordered the steak soft taco combination plate, and my husband ordered a carne asada burrito. Both came with rice and beans. My husband also had the fried ice cream which came with strawberry slices and mango chunks. Chips and drinks were refilled while we enjoyed our tasty meal. Service was great, food was good, and the price was right. We will definitely be making another visit to this establishment.

Very disappointing. Our food was delivered cool after nearly a hour wait. The food, once delivered, was nothing special. For $70, I'd rather go to Taco Bell four times.

We decided to try this place out after church on Sunday. When we walked we in, there were two small tables already sat and one large table of about 8 customers. There were at least three servers working the shift so we thought it would be a pleasant experience all around since we had heard good things about this restaurant. NEGATIVE. We waited 15 minutes before our server even made it to our table to ask us what we would like to drink. When he came back 7 minutes later, he had forgotten to bring a kids drink and the appetizer guacamole, which I might add was not tasty at all and awkward, being served with what seemed like shredded mozzarella cheese on top. (We received these items halfway through our meals.) Other small nit-picks here and there, but overall our trip was uninspiring. We will not be going back.

The food wasnt what we were expecting. The place seemed like a good authentic place. The food seemed like it used cheap ingredients. The service was ok, it was late and they were busy. The drinks are overpriced and the food is as well. If you are in the mood for Mexican right after seeing a movie at the Oro Valley Marketplace, this is a good place. If you can wait 15 minutes, there are better options

We decided to try this place for breakfast. Something differente'. $40 later, we were not wowed. The Egg White Omelet was passable but incomplete. It needed something, perhaps fresh Basil or fresh jalapeno, to give it some zing. Egg whites are so good about absorbing flavors. An opportunity was missed. The serving was too small for the price as well; a side of potatoes would have been perfect. Instead, limp flavored whole beans and lettuce garnish. Chorizo was ok, but won't set the world on fire. Same with the Huevos Rancheros. Tortillas were not as fresh as we would have liked. This place is not on our list of places to visit again soon.

Had been wanting to try this place out. BIG mistake! At 1 pm I was seated immediately and the drink I had asked for arrived. 20 minutes later, no server had taken my order, nor did one even glance my way in acknowledgement. I threw down a few bills to cover the drink , left a note explaining they were too slow and left. Sorry to see such really poor service.

Don't waste your time. This was our second time, 9 months apart and things have gone from mediocre to forgettaboutit. We went in on a weds nite. after being seated and having our drink order taken we left 15 min later without our drinks ever showing up. I don't know if the young waitstaff are on drugs or what but for a couple of bucks more we went to a real restaurant and got excellent food and service (Guiseppie's)

Passable food, attractive room and generally excellent service, but I hesitate to return mainly because of the house margaritas: sickeningly sweet, made from mix (no fresh lime juice). You can do better San Carlos. Also, many dishes taste as if they share the same generic red Mex sauce; they're often bland and lack heat and complexity. The small outside patio mainly overlooks the parking lot and Walmart complex. That said, they do put out a great anytime breakfast, which you can scarf down before an early bargain matinee at Century theaters a few doors down.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
